Great post Donal. I did an MSc in strategic management. Similar course, but not quite (50% less) as pricey. I share the exact same sentiments - particularly on the inconsistency of lecturing.

As I had studied PR and communications previously, this really helped me broaden my perspective. I warn (yes warn) people though that they should talk to people like us who have gone through a course first before making the commitment. The schedule can be hell and the question has to be asked 'why' you want to do it. If there's a definite goal there, then great. In hind site, I probably should have done the MSc in iBusiness, but that came out after I was one year in and I decided I felt value in where I was.

G'Day! Donal De Paor,
On a similar note,, Masters of Business Administration represents a tertiary degree in business management. The MBA degree is the best known degree worldwide and most widely recognized post-graduate degree. It was originally created to help engineers acquire management skills, but nowadays MBA degrees focus on a broad range of subjects.
BTW great blogpost

Hi Kirsten,

I often wonder if I should bother to write at all as the risk of saying something that could offend someone is high and reward is minimal if I blog on meaningful topics. Your kind words inspire me to keep going. I sincerely appreciate them!

Great piece, Donal. Your views on topics, most of us silently struggle with, were both insightful and sincere. I have already repeated your, "Political skill can often trump practical accomplishments in executive life" quote. Well done. PS - I am making an across-the-board bet that we will see Change Fatigue T-shirts & Mugs in the near future. Cheers!

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the checking out my blog. For an R&D director to find the post worthwhile is very rewarding. I agree that many outside of R&D don't understand the different types. I think we own part of the responsibility for this though. We can do a better job of explaining the categories and tracking the time against them to support our perspective and educate our partners in the business.
